The EMS codes

The EMS = Easy Mind System is a way of coding the breeds, the basic colours, the colour patterns, the eyes colours, etc.

Basic colours codes

a = blue
b = chocolate
c = lilac
d = red
e = cream
f = black tortie
g = blue tortie
h = chocolate tortie
j = lilac tortie
m = caramel or apricot
n = black (“n” comes from french “noir”)
n = seal (for himalayan cats, burmese, burmillas and tonkinese)
n = ruddy (for Abyssinian and Somali)
o = cinnamon (sorrel for Abyssinian)
p = fawn
q = cinnamon (sorrel) tortie
r = fawn tortie
s = silver
w = white
x = not recognized colour
y = golden

nt = amber – only recognized for Norvegian Forest cats
at = light amber – only recognized for Norvegian Forest cats

Colour patterns

01 = van
02 = harlequin
03 = bicolour
04 = mitted – only recognized for Ragdoll
05 = snowshoe pattern
09 = with any amount of white
11 = shaded
12 = shell
21 = tabby (unspecified pattern)
22 = tabby blotched
23 = tabby mackerel
24 = tabby spotted
25 = tabby ticked
31 = burmese pointed
32 = tonkinois pointed
33 = himalayan (siamese) pointed

Eyes colours

61 = blue eyes
62 = orange eyes
63 = odd vairons
64 = green eyes
65 = burmese eye colour
66 = tonkinese eye colour
67 = siamese eye colour
